“Design thinking methodology as a tool for solving challenges in the public policy making“
A two-day workshop applying the Design Thinking (DT) methodology was held on 28 and 29 November 2022, in the premises of the Public Policy Secretariat (PPS). This event was supported by German Development Cooperation implemented by GIZ, while the workshops were facilitated by the experts from the Design Thinking Academy (DTA). The aim of the workshops was to increase the capacity and knowledge of the PPS employees, for the future work with departments according to the DT methodology.
Design Thinking methodology is about creative problem solving and designing solutions in accordance with the needs, aspirations and motives of the users for whom the solution is made. Therefore, it is often applied to projects and in conditions where the problems are complex or the previous solutions failed to produce the expected results for the users. Design Thinking is based on „human-centred design“ that allows the designed solutions to be in accordance with the user’s needs, that is, the user is in the centre of solution designing process, along with his needs, wishes and goals.
This iterative approach aims to develop empathy with users and design solutions together with the user, and not just for them. DT brings together a range of disciplines, from research and strategy to design, procedures and practice. In addition, it strengthens the ability of teams to creatively solve problems applying the principles of collaboration and co-creation.
