Belgrade, 7 November 2024 – A workshop titled “The Artificial Intelligence in the Public Sector – Perspectives from Serbia and Germany” was held today at the Goethe-Institute in Belgrade. The event was organized by the Data Innovation Lab under the German Federal Foreign Office, supported by Public Policy Secretariat and the German Embassy in Belgrade.

The workshop brought together public sector experts, diplomats, and key industry partners in the Republic of Serbia to discuss the potential, challenges, and practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in public administration. The agenda featured case studies from the German Federal Foreign Office, an analysis of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), and discussions on future AI applications in policymaking.

A key takeaway from the workshop was that AI can significantly enhance public administration by enabling early crisis detection and streamlining complex documentation processes. German Ambassador Anke Konrad emphasized the importance of German-Serbian cooperation in science and technology. Representatives from both countries discussed the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI into administrative processes. Both Germany and Serbia have already implemented AI solutions aimed at improving efficiency and public service delivery.

A special focus was placed on Serbia’s Register of Administrative Procedures (RAP Portal), which serves as a centralized information hub for businesses and citizens, offering comprehensive data on various administrative procedures and requirements.

Additionally, new tools were presented to simplify and consolidate administrative processes, making business operations more accessible and cost-effective, particularly in the beverage production sector.
