The United Nations in Serbia organized, in Belgrade on September 9, 2025, a workshop titled “Localization of Sustainable Development Goals.” The event aimed to strengthen institutional capacities, foster cooperation among local authorities, and formalize partnerships for the implementation of the SDGs at the local level. The Public Policy Secretariat (PPS) was represented by Tamara Bresjanac, Assistant Director in the Sector for Planning System, and Jovan Borisić, Senior Advisor in the Sector for Development and Improvement of Public Policies and Coordination of APSPV.

Through the SDG Cities Initiative and the UN-Habitat Programme, support is provided to municipalities in localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through data-based planning, stakeholder engagement, and capacity development. In this process, cities and municipalities in Serbia are becoming key actors in addressing interconnected challenges, including climate change, social inclusion, sustainable infrastructure, and economic development.

The PPS representatives delivered a presentation titled “From Data to Good Governance,” which highlighted the legal framework for evidence-based decision-making, the Local Government Analytical Service as a key tool for local-level decision-making, and the methodology developed by PPS for mapping indicators from public policy documents to the SDGs and the Analytical Service of LGUs. The presentation also outlined the next steps needed to further improve the planning system and the process of evidence-based decision-making.
